Make Your Own Gluten-Free Baking Powder

This is got to be one of the simplest solutions for Gluten-free living yet!  So simple it just takes two simple ingredients and a fork.......and your done in seconds!

Why bother?  The best reason is that you control EXACTLY what goes into your baking powder.  No worries of some hidden contaminate, aluminum (that your body has trouble processing, tends to build up in your body and is implicated in Alzheimer's), or genetically modified corn products.

There are two ways to go here and I'm going to offer both to you:

How to Make Homemade Baking Powder with Corn Starch

Ingredients:

- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons organic cornstarch
  1. Mix the ingredients together in a clean, dry jar that has a lid. A Mason jar works perfectly for this.
  2. Keep in a dry dark place.
  3. Always shake well before using to help the ingredients blend correctly.

How to Make Homemade Baking Powder with Baking Soda

- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon Baking Soda
  1. Mix the ingredients together in a clean, dry jar that has a lid and airtight. A Mason jar works perfectly for this.
  2. Prominently label your jar “My Amazing Homemade Baking Powder,” ‘cuz who doesn’t need a little pat on the back in the kitchen!
  3. Keep in a dry dark place.
  4. Always shake well before using to help the ingredients blend correctly.
  5. If you wish to store it for long term use, add a teaspoon of corn starch, potato starch, or arrowroot powder and seal it in an airtight container.

Tips for Using and Storing Baking Powder

Once this baking powder is subjected to damp it will begin working and lose its leavening ability. Here are some tips for using homemade baking powder:

- Make sur eyour Cream of Tartar is fresh
- Use homemade baking powder measure for measure like the commercial variety.
- Store airtight in a cool, dry area.
- Always keep all utensils, measuring spoons, etc. completely dry when working with baking powder.
- Keep it fresh. It should be used within a couple of weeks and definitely no more than four weeks.
- If it clumps just run it through a sifter
- Always use organic cornstarch to avoid GMOs.
